Thank you so much for sharing. I can relate so much to what you're saying. I will be 71 years old on Saturday, I was born in South Africa but have lived in England since I was 13. I'm happily retired now and able to reflect on how I learned to navigate my black masculinity in a predominantly white society. Even today I still face those challenges but fortunately I am able to avoid the English winter by spending three months in my mother country of South Africa and three months in Jamaica, my wife's mother country. I feel blessed and privileged to have survived that trauma, being in Africa and Jamaica allows me to relax and rediscover my true self.
